Davide Carlone
History
The history of the Davide Carlone winery begins among the rows of vines of his grandfather Carlo in Grignasco. Here, as a boy, he spent afternoons after school listening to stories of early 20th-century rural life. The family's roots date back to 1880, but it was in 1991 that Davide turned that memory into a project: bringing vineyards back to the Novara hills, an area where viticulture had almost disappeared after World War II. Starting with 3,500 square meters of vineyard and joined by his sister Michela, he signed over 80 notarial deeds. In this way, he reunited plots divided among dozens of owners, reaching the current 11 hectares.
Vineyard
The vineyards of the Carlone winery are located between 380 and 460 meters above sea level, facing south and southwest. They are within the Monte Fenera Natural Park and the Sesia Val Grande Geopark, recognized by UNESCO. Here, the soil tells the story of an eruption about 300 million years ago: the lands of the Valsesia Supervolcano are rich in porphyry, poor in nutrients, and mineral-rich. Among the rows, chestnut poles, willow ties, and organic fertilizers are used. Herbicides are banned, grass is managed
