Sardinian Vermentino "Giunco Piccolo" from the Mesa winery is a hedged, fresh and wide white wine produced in Sant'Anna Arresi, Sardinia. This label is obtained from pure Vermentino grapes coming from vineyards located in the Sulcis area, in the southwestern part of the island, characterized by scarce rains distributed irregularly throughout the year and frequent maestrale winds. The vines are cultivated using the trellis method with guyot pruning on alluvial soils, originating from the Pleistocene, rich in skeleton and characterized by clayey-sandy soils. The winery, owner of about 70 hectares of vineyards, was founded in 2004 by Gavino Sanna, an advertising executive and entrepreneur of Sardinian origins who, in love with his land, decided to invest in a winemaking reality where natural rhythms reign in an indissoluble combination of tradition and respect for the territory.
The "Giunco Piccolo" Vermentino di Sardegna from Mesa is produced with carefully selected grapes harvested by hand in boxes, between the end of August and the beginning of September. The bunches, brought to the winery, are cooled to temperature of about 10 °C for at least 48 hours before being destemmed and gently pressed. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature of 15-18 °C for a few weeks, after which the wine remains in aging on its fine lees for at least 4 months before being bottled and continuing its maturation in the bottle for at least another month before being put on the market.
The wine "Giunco Piccolo" from Mesa presents itself with a beautiful bright straw yellow color. On the nose, intense aromas of white-fleshed fruit and tropical fruit appear, including peach and mango, floral notes of white flowers, such as jasmine, citrus hints of orange peel, and then shifting to hints of Mediterranean scrub and iodine. On the palate, it is crisp, balanced, and enveloping, characterized by a beautiful freshness, at times savory, and a finish played on fruity references. This white wine from the Mesa winery is a great pleasure, rich and concentrated but at the same time fresh and thirst-quenching.
